More About John Blackmon

Clients appreciate John’s knowledge of the area and of the considerations necessary when investing in property in this area. He says he also enjoys “sharing my knowledge.” His goal is to be helpful to people who have a broad goal of buying a property and guiding them through decisions that will help them achieve those goals. He explains that “real estate is a big decision for people.” It’s important to him to be “in a position to help people with stressful decisions.”

John says he is the “kind of guy that doesn’t really get flustered too much. That gets some of that weight away from others.” Recognizing that “nobody likes to move,” John says he tries to get them “to focus on the task at hand, why we’re here working together.” Moving can also be emotional and that can lead to poor decisions. He works to help his clients “accept those emotions and manage them properly.”

John’s philosophy and approach also apply to the second home buyer who may have less of a business mind. He explains, “They’ve worked their whole life and now they want a second home at the beach.”

With experience in property management and solid relationships with vendors, he applies his knowledge to help those buyers. He says he has “learned quite a bit so I can explain to the owner.” For example, he explains what to look for in a home as well as how to proactively prevent a major maintenance issue. There are certain considerations with a beach property, such as understanding that an air conditioning unit is not going to last 30 years, that a buyer may not even think about when looking for a second home or investment property.

In his spare time, John says he loves sports, literally all kinds of sports. He played sports his entire life and continues to enjoy participating in and watching all types of events. He says he “could have a long conversation with anyone about sports,” as he is “always paying attention to what’s going on in that world.”

John and his wife also love to travel, going to the mountains, boating, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. They recently completed the extremely strenuous Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Hike, which took them four days and involved hiking over 14 miles down to the bottom and almost ten miles, virtually straight up, to reach the top of the other side.

Back at home, John says he and his family love the beach as a place where “you can literally have a blast and do nothing.”

As a local expert, he wants his clients to know that he wants the best for them as well. Still focused on building and sustaining the trust that leads to quality relationships, he explains, “it starts and ends with helping. If you’re my client, I want you to be my client again.”
